20ft Cargo-Worthy Dry Van
Cargo-worthy is the grade above wind and watertight. As well as being sound and dry, the container has been surveyed and carries valid CSC plating — which is what allows it to be re-loaded and shipped internationally rather than only used as a static store.
That matters in two situations. The obvious one is if you actually intend to move the container with goods in it. The less obvious one is if you simply want the tightest structural standard available in a used box: a cargo-worthy survey sets a higher bar for the frame, the door gear and the corner castings than a storage-grade unit has to meet.
It sits a step above a general wind and watertight unit and a step below one-trip stock. If the container will never leave your yard, you may well be paying for certification you do not need — a standard used 20 ft does the storage job for less.

What Cargo-Worthy Actually Means
Cargo-worthy is the grade above wind and watertight. As well as being sound and dry, the container has been surveyed and CSC plated, which is what allows it to be re-loaded and shipped internationally rather than only used as a static store. In practice that means the corner castings, rails and door gear have been checked, the floor is serviceable, and the unit can legally go back into the freight system. If you may ever need to ship the box with goods inside it, this is the grade to buy — a used unit sold only as wind and watertight cannot be used that way.
Condition to Expect
- Genuine ex-shipping line stock, so surface rust, previous repairs, patch paint and shipping line markings are normal and do not affect the grade.
- Guaranteed structurally sound and guaranteed wind and watertight, with a 28mm marine plywood floor on steel cross members.
- Corten steel throughout, with two locking bars on each door and fitted vents to limit condensation.
- Two forklift pockets per side for repositioning around a yard without a crane.
